Transform Your Home with Richard Pears

Home extensions can be the perfect way to unleash your imagination. With a near-unlimited range of shapes, sizes, angles and materials to choose from, understanding what you truly want to achieve from an extension can unlock your home’s ultimate potential.

Over the last few months, we have joined esteemed architect, Richard Pears, documenting the exciting extension and remodelling of Orinoco, a beautiful family home in Glasgow’s Southside, which was sold to current owners by our Clarkston and Netherlee branch.

Richard is an architect with over 25 years of experience and runs a business that specialises in residential projects that bring new life and perspective to a home.

‘Orinoco’ is a traditional stone-fronted detached villa enjoying a slightly elevated setting, distinguished by its pretty frontage and spacious internal accommodation. At its time of listing, the property was highly sought-after as a result of its location, spacious footprint and scope for modernisation.

A rear extension to the house stood out as the right choice for the new owners, with a sympathetic consideration of the home’s original features. The extension’s objective revolved around the expansion of the living space, particularly the kitchen and dining spaces, creating an element of openness and functionality conducive to modern family living. The second part of the project was to add a further bedroom that would function as the master suite, complete with an en-suite bathroom.

With the primary purpose of the project bring to enhance the living accommodation for the current owners, it was also important to recognise the potential for increasing the property’s value, especially when catering to the family market with sought-after requirements for modern specifications, beautiful outdoor spaces, excellent schooling, and a full range of local amenities.

Marc Leslie, Partner at our Clarkston & Netherlee, shares his excitement for the project: ‘Whilst already a great property within excellent local school catchment, Orinoco represented a wonderful opportunity to further develop and enhance the accommodation to deliver a more contemporary family home reflecting today’s style of living.’
